New Orleans

I'm glad we visited this historic city but it's not a place I think I'd ever have reason to visit again.

We are foodies so dining at a variety of resturants was fun. The beignets and coffee at Cafe Du Monde are delectable but I don't think they compare to our local beignet spot in Lakeland, FL The Poor Porker. I could be partial tho because I find it endearing to walk up and have the person behind the counter know my name.

For breakfast we went to the Ruby slipper. Cool atmosphere and good eats. Their buttermilk buscuits are not to be missed.

We also ate at The Mona Lisa and Felix's, both were excellent.

The cities many art galleries are fun to browse thru. We visited The National WWII museum, which we enjoyed greatly. And how can you not enjoy the history and architecture of this bustling city?

For shits and giggles we drove by Brad Pitt and Angelia Jolie's French Quarter home, it's rather nondescript on the outside. I imagine it's quite stunning inside, it's offered for sale at an asking price of $6.5 million. If you're granted a showing you are not permitted to take pictures inside.

However, the city's drawbacks are many. It's the worst smelling place I've ever visited. It smelled like human waste and if you got caught in a down wind it was worse. There are drunk people everywhere at all times of the day. We walked down Burbon St once and that's plenty for a lifetime. It smelled the worst, had the most drunks and was basically a street for pure debauchery. The homeless population and poverty here is off the charts. It's rather depressing.

So I can say I've seen New Orleans, this was Ian's second visit as he'd been here once before for work. It's officially crossed off the list of places to see and it's not on the list of places to return to.
